The last thing anyone wants to do right now is read a long blog.
So, let’s get down to the point right away.
You could, and should, be selling more in your stores every day. So why not start today?
Here are 5 things you can do TODAY to sell more easily:
1. Wait on every customer with intent.
As obvious as this sounds, it doesn’t happen as often as it should. And we all know it. You can’t sell to them if you don’t talk to them. “With intent” simply means you need to wait on the customer with the intent to establish rapport and uncover any needs you may be able to help them with. It doesn’t mean just saying “Hi” (although that’s better than nothing).
2. Play the “One More” Game
With every customer you’re making a sale to, show them one more item. Make it a point to push yourself to suggest that one additional item that makes sense. Not everyone will take it, but some certainly will.
3. Track your one-item sales.
We always say one item sales are the death of retail. Simply start tracking the number of sales you make for just one item. Just use a sheet of paper next to the till. Make it a point of trying your best to eliminate as many one item sales as possible.
4. Forget about putting money in the register, and focus on really helping the customer
The oddest thing happens when you worry less about the register, and more about the customer. More money ends up in the register! Dig deep with your customers to really understand their complete needs and wants and show the most complete solution possible that fits them.
5. Play “Pass The Buck”
I’m digging way back for this one. But, it always works. It’s a simple game where you start with a $5 bill (it can be whatever you want). Decide on the parameter for the game. For example, it may be to sell the most number of items to a customer. Whoever makes the first sale of the day takes the $5. Whoever makes the next sale with more items, takes the $5 from them. It keeps going all day and whoever has the $5 at the end of the day keeps it. So simple. So fun. So effective.
We always fret about the complicated things we need to do to drive sales. Let’s never forget there are some easy things you can do too.
Have fun. Now, Get Selling!
