There’s no doubt that if you’re reading this, you’re one of those people that really does want to succeed. There are countless numbers of external challenges you face and have to deal with every day. You succeed at some, and struggle with others. That’s the reality for everyone. But, the biggest obstacle most of us face is staring at us every morning in the mirror … ourselves!
I know a lot about this. Some would say I’m an expert on it! See, I’ve been running my business for 30 years (Wow, that makes me feel old!) and we’ve become pretty good at what we do. But the biggest challenge I need to overcome each week, month and year is myself. The same is probably true for you.
Consider this short list of the things I/we do and think that get in the way of our success:
- We begin to believe we’re ‘too busy’, when in fact busy means nothing nowadays. It’s the new norm. It’s just an excuse to not get better.
- We think we have the answer, so we stop asking for input and really listening. In fact, we probably only have 20% of what’s needed to create the right answer. Ego is the enemy!
- We start listening to the negative voices in our heads. You know the ones that say you’re not good enough, not ready enough and that you’re not going to succeed. We allow these negative voices to drown out the equally legitimate and powerful positive voices.
These self-imposed barriers steal your energy, your self-confidence and your passion. You stop driving for success and settle for the status quo … and excuses.
I’ve committed to getting out of my own way this year.
Maybe it’s time for you to get out of your own way too.
