Give Them a Break!

Enough with the complaining, OK?

The chorus of whining and complaining from some customers and many so-called retail experts has to stop about the current reality of BOPIS (buy online, pick up at store).

Did you have to line up? Probably.

Did you have to wait?  Probably.

Do you realize what these stores have had to do in a little over a month to even make this happen for you?

Do you realize that you’re often taking your frustration out on an employee who is likely making little more than minimum wage, and is risking their health for you?

The exponential increase in online orders has resulted in retailers having to pivot faster than ever. Some have seen increases of 500% in online orders (how would your household make out if your laundry load went up by 500%? I’m thinking that wouldn’t go over smoothly either).

Even Amazon, the big guy, has had to delay sending thousands of orders out the door to prioritize essential items.

I know it’s no fun to wait in a line for your light bulbs, pens, and a new basketball. Just recognize these are unprecedented times and that everyone is doing their best.

So, the next time you’re about to complain to a frontline worker or post a negative review, pause for a moment and think.  A big ‘thank you’ is likely what you should say instead.
