Earlier this week, I came across a new business selling vacation cruises. It’s no secret that the tourism industry has been the hardest hit because of COVID, but if they can be confident and positive about things returning to normal, then you should be too.
This holiday shopping season there are going to be customers coming into retail stores wanting to talk about the virus, their fears, vaccines, and politics. You need to stay out of the weeds on all of this. Take every conversation and turn it into a positive one with customers. Click To Tweet
For example, if your business offers curbside pickup, customers might want to talk to you about the challenges associated with this. You should take this conversation and turn it around. Tell them that curbside pick up has been a great opportunity to interact with customers in a new and exciting way. Or if a customer talks to you about low traffic counts, tell them this has given you more time to spend with customers and you are really loving this.
You need to look after your customers’ emotional needs. You don’t need to be a psychologist but you can be the ray of sunshine that they need in their lives this holiday season.
Be positive for your customers, for your teammates, and yourself!
